The Malpaís de Güímar Special Nature Reserve is a natural area situated in the municipality of Güímar. The almost desert-like landscape combines the black colour of solidified lava with reddish sand, giving visitors the impression that they are on another planet. A coastal walk that keeps you enjoying yourself for the entire duration of the walk.

Los Escurriales, popularly known as the ‘Lunar Landscape’, were sculpted by wind and water from volcanic rock, and their shapes resemble the surface of the moon. They were formed by a process of differential erosion of an outcrop of soft rock. Erosion over thousands of years gradually eroded them, giving rise to these formations known as ‘fairy chimneys’.

You won’t find the ghost town of Abades in any tourist guides, no doubt because of its past, but it’s still an intriguing place to visit. Located on the south-east coast of Tenerife, near Abades, the Leprosario is a former leper colony that was never completed. It was built during the 1940s, under Franco’s regime, as a place to isolate those suffering from leprosy.

The Montaña Roja is a volcano located in El Médano (Granadilla de Abona), its image is recognisable from different points of the island. At 171 metres high, it is located between the beaches of Leocadio Machado and La Tejita, flanked by a smaller mountain called Bocinegro. The views from the summit are spectacular.

The city of San Cristóbal de la Laguna is located very close to Santa Cruz de Tenerife at 545 m. above sea level. It is the second most populated city and was the first city founded in Tenerife after its conquest (July 1496). It is called San Cristóbal because he is the patron saint of travellers. Due to its location, it has a microclimate which means that the temperature is lower than in other places on the island.

To date, Chinyero is the last volcano to erupt in Tenerife, it happened in 1909 and spent 10 days spewing lava uninterruptedly. The eruption has left us with a beautiful landscape of contrasts. The route of the Chinyero trail is one of the best hiking routes in Tenerife, it is a circular route and is not too demanding. The distance of the route is 6.5 km and it takes about 2 hours.

 

Rambla de Castro and Los Roques

Our proposal is a walk along the Rambla de Castro path that leads us to connect the San Pedro viewpoint with Los Roques beach. The route is suitable for all ages and levels, very easy and perfectly signposted. It takes approximately 2 hours and a half to get there and back, about 8 km without going too fast. We will visit a protected landscape of the island with a great diversity of flora.

Located on the southeast side of Tenerife, some 17 kilometres from Santa Cruz, Candelaria is known for its Basilica, which houses the image of the Virgin of Candelaria. A basilica that is always busy and full of pilgrims eager to see La Morenita, the affectionate name by which the Canarians refer to the patron saint of the islands, a fact that generates the visit of more than two million people every year.

 

Garachico

Garachico is a beautiful village, an essential stop if you are in Tenerife. But above all it is a very peculiar village because of its history. It was founded by a Genoese banker, Cristóbal de Ponte in 1496 and in 1916 King Alfonso XIII granted it the title of Villa y Puerto. It was also the main port of Tenerife during the 16th and 17th centuries.

Puerto de La Cruz is one of the most dynamic and bustling places in Tenerife.  Nestled in the Orotava Valley, it has a marvellous landscape from which you can easily make out Mount Teide. Its natural swimming pools are a delight to take a dip and refresh yourself.

El Médano is a coastal town in the south of Tenerife belonging to the municipality of Granadilla de Abona. One of its characteristics is its intense wind that blows most of the year. This makes it a perfect place for windsurfers and kitesurfers. Its attraction is that it is not a place overcrowded by tourism and that it has a wonderful beach next to the town square.

The visit to the Faro de Rasca lighthouse is one of the most popular routes for those who want to go hiking in Tenerife. The route has no difficulty at all and runs through the amazing Malpaís de la Rasca, a Special Nature Reserve located in the town of el Palm-Mar. Most of the route follows the sea until you reach the lighthouse. The Punta de Rasca lighthouse is responsible for marking the southern coasts of the island for maritime navigation.
